Who We Are

Welcome to First Baptist Monroe!  I’m glad you have taken the time to learn more about our church.  First Baptist has been around since 1829 when the first 17 members made their home right here at the corner of Wayne & McDaniel.  Our beautiful sanctuary was completed in 1916 and is the third building to house our congregation for worship.

As we near our 200th anniversary, we value our history and the sacrifices of those who have gone before us.  At the same time, we are excited about the future and the opportunities we have to be faithful followers of Jesus in a world that so desperately needs Him.

​

Our desire as a church is to be constantly, “Learning Truth, Loving God & Others, and Living Like Jesus.”  This is what drives us.  We are learning truth together by looking to Scripture to shape our worldview.  It is our sole source for what we believe about God and ourselves and for how we live our lives.

 

In “Loving God & Others,” we are striving to fulfill the two greatest commandments.  Our love for God leads us to worship Him - not only corporately, but also throughout the moments of every day.  Loving others is about being an authentic community where we look out for the interests of one another.  Our desire is to connect and walk with one another through all of life.

 

As we worship God and connect with each other, we believe the Holy Spirit is also leading us to “Live Like Jesus” through selfless service.  Just as our building is located in the heart of town, we have a heart for Monroe.  But we also believe God is calling us to be His witnesses “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).  For this reason, we seek to live like Jesus by serving Him around the world just as we do right here at home.

 

As we worship, connect, and serve, we believe the Lord is working through us to share the good news of Jesus and His Kingdom.  The death, burial, & resurrection of Jesus is the most critical statement of God’s love for His creation.  Jesus is the only hope of the world!

 

So, this is who we are - we are followers of Jesus who are, “Learning Truth, Loving God & Others, and Living Like Jesus.”  And we invite you to join us as we worship God, connect with others, serve the world, and share the good news of Jesus and His kingdom. I believe you’ll love it here!
